Frequently Asked Questions
I bought a white tea once, and it tasted like hot water. Is this the same? I hate paying for tea that has "no flavor.
Flavorlessness is a sign of low quality or a tea that is past its prime. Our Yue Guang Bai is fresh from the 2026 harvest and composed of whole, fat buds. Because these buds are rich in sap (and we don’t chop them up into fannings), you will taste distinct notes of honeydew melon, fresh hay, and honey. Furthermore, the Yunnan Yue Guang Bai Air Dried White Tea process encourages a heavier body than standard Fujian white teas, making sure you taste something.
I tried white tea and it gave me an upset stomach. Is this safe for sensitive guts?
Traditional whites can be cold to the stomach. However, Moonlight Beauty is not standard white tea. Because we do not heat up the leaves to kill the enzymes (kill-green), the leaves undergo a gentle, natural fermentation/oxidation over 48-60 hours. This extended anaerobic environment breaks down the aggressive catechins and tannins that upset the stomach. Essentially, Moonlight White Yunnan White Tea is much "warmer" and softer on the digestive system than raw green tea.
Why are my tea leaves crushed into little bits? My last package had so much "dust" it made the cup murky.
Look at our photos. Our Yue Guang Bai White Moonlight is Full Leaf. Because the leaves are never rolled or kneaded, they remain flexible, whole, and intact. We pack them gently by hand to prevent crushing. You will not find sludge at the bottom of your cup; you will find a beautiful sunrise of floating, rehydrated black and white leaves.
I tried steeping this at boiling once and it went bitter. Am I doing it wrong?
While we recommend brewing at 175°F to 185°F (80°C-85°C) to protect the delicate aromatic oils, here is the magic of Moonlight Beauty White Tea: Even if you accidentally use boiling water, this tea is incredibly forgiving. Because the leaves do not undergo the "fixing" process (pan firing), the plant cells are soft and whole. They release flavor slowly. Unlike crushed bagged tea that instantly floods with tannins at high heat, Moonlight White releases its sweet water slowly. You won't ruin it.
Why is your tea white on one side and black on the other? Is that blended tea?
This is the magic of Yue Guang Bai. The black is the back of the leaf that oxidized because it was touching the bamboo tray (slow air). The white is the front of the leaf facing upwards, covered in millions of tiny silver hairs (trichomes) that protect the leaf. It is 100% the same leaf, 100% natural, resulting from how the moisture evaporated. Nature painted this leaf; we didn't add anything to it.
Does this tea get old quickly? I want to buy a whole pound but don't drink fast.
Because Moonlight White Yunnan White Tea skips the "kill-green" heating step, the enzymes inside the leaf are still alive. Like Pu'er, this tea actually ages beautifully. Keep it dry, keep it sealed, and in 2 years, that "fresh" hay flavor will transform into a honeyed, date-sweet, liquor-like brew. It doesn't expire; it evolves.
