  • 水温:95–100°C(203–212°F)

  • 水温:95°C(203°F)

Does Rougui tea actually contain cinnamon?
No. Rougui is the name of the tea cultivar, not an ingredient list. This is an oolong tea made from tea leaves, with no cinnamon spice added. Depending on the tea and roast, its natural aroma may suggest cinnamon, warm spice, flowers, fruit, or toasted notes.
I bought Rougui expecting a strong cinnamon taste. Why might I taste peach or roast instead?
The word “Cinnamon” can create an expectation of a strong baking-spice flavor, but Rougui does not always taste like cinnamon sticks. Its aromatic profile can vary with growing conditions and roasting. In this Zhuangyuanling harvest, the supplied tasting description emphasizes ripe-fruit and peach-like notes, supported by floral and warm roasted character.
Will traditional charcoal roasting make the tea smoky or burnt?
Charcoal roasting can create toasted, woody, and sometimes smoky aromas. However, a harsh burnt taste is not the same as a well-integrated roasted character. If the first infusion seems too intense, shorten the steep and try a slightly lower leaf-to-water ratio. This gives you a better chance to appreciate the fruit and floral notes.
Why does my Wuyi Rock Tea taste bitter or dry even when I use good-quality leaves?
A strong leaf-to-water ratio, long steep, or very hot water combined with extended contact can extract more bitterness and astringency than you enjoy. Start with a short infusion, pour out the liquor completely, and adjust one variable at a time. A fuller-bodied tea does not need to be brewed harshly to reveal its character.
The tea smells wonderful, but why does the aroma seem weaker after I take a sip?
Aroma is perceived differently from dry leaves, the warmed gaiwan lid, the liquor, and the aftertaste. Try smelling the warmed leaves and empty cup between infusions. Also check that the tea has been stored airtight and away from strong odors. Leaving the package open can gradually diminish its aromatic freshness.
Is the ripe peach aroma natural, or has peach flavoring been added?
No peach ingredient or flavoring is specified for this tea. The peach description refers to a fruit-like aromatic impression in the supplied tasting profile. It is a sensory comparison, not a claim that the tea contains peach pieces, juice, or added flavor.
What makes Zhuangyuanling Rougui different from Rougui from a deep Wuyi ravine?
Zhuangyuanling combines ridge, valley, and ravine-like terrain. It receives longer sunlight exposure than some deeply enclosed valley sites, but surrounding rock walls and lower, sheltered sections moderate direct light. Its streams, natural pool, humidity, and abundant vegetation add further dimensions to its growing environment.
Why does the tea taste different from one infusion to the next?
Gongfu brewing extracts different aromatic and flavor components over successive infusions. The opening steeps may emphasize aroma and roast, while later cups can reveal softer sweetness and a gentler finish. Adjust steeping times gradually instead of expecting every cup to taste identical.
Is this tea suitable if I usually drink lighter, less roasted oolong?
It can be, but keep in mind that this is a traditional-style charcoal-roasted Wuyi Rock Oolong with a fuller body. If you prefer delicate, lightly oxidized teas, begin with a smaller quantity of leaves and a short infusion. This allows you to explore the fruit and floral character without making the cup too concentrated.
What does “Number One Scholar Ridge” mean? Is it an official tea grade?
No. Zhuangyuanling is a place name. “Number One Scholar” refers to the traditional Chinese title of the highest-ranking candidate in the imperial civil service examinations. The name and the local Dragon Gate story give the ridge cultural significance, but they do not represent an official tea grade, competition award, or quality certification.
