Frequently Asked Questions
The photos show a bright golden leaf, but what I received looks slightly darker. Is this normal?
Natural oxidation can occur during transit, especially with such a delicate varietal. The vibrant golden hue is fully present when stored properly. Keep the tea in an airtight container away from light and heat; the leaves will retain their characteristic color and freshness. We pack each harvest promptly to preserve quality, and we guarantee that your tea matches the authentic appearance of Anji Golden Buds.
I’ve tried other “yellow” or “golden bud” teas that tasted grassy or bitter. How is this different?
Bitterness typically comes from over-harvested leaves or water that’s too hot. Our Ming Qian Anji Golden Buds is harvested at the peak of tenderness, with minimal tannins and abundant theanine. To capture its natural crisp sweetness, use water at 75–80°C (167–176°F) and steep for 2–3 minutes. Oversteeping or boiling water will mask the delicate notes we’ve worked to preserve.
Is this tea considered a white tea or a green tea? The names can be confusing.
While it’s sometimes compared to white teas due to its light processing, Anji Golden Buds is technically a yellow-variant green tea. It undergoes a gentle fixation step similar to green teas, which locks in its fresh character and bright color. The result is a tea with more aroma and structure than most white teas, yet smoother and less vegetal than typical green teas—a category of its own.
I’ve tried other “golden bud” teas that lacked flavor. What makes yours different?
Many teas marketed as “golden buds” use standard green teas with minimal buds or lower-grade leaves. Our Anji Huang Jin Ya is sourced directly from the authentic varietal lineage discovered in Zhejiang, hand-harvested during the Ming Qian window, and processed to highlight its natural sweetness and aroma. The result is a tea that delivers both visual beauty and depth of flavor—qualities that discerning drinkers notice immediately.
Can I resteep the leaves? How many times?
Yes. The buds are dense with flavor and yield 3–4 infusions. Increase steeping time gradually with each round (add 30–60 seconds). The first steep offers the brightest crispness; later steeps reveal subtle nutty and vegetal layers—a journey worth taking.
