Description
  • Material: Zhuni
  • Origin: Chaozhou, Guangzhou.
  • Popular Elements: Chinese Court Style
  • Dragon Egg Side Handle Pot: 11.5 x 7.5 cm, capacity 140 ml.
  • Lantern Side Handle Pot: 11.5 x 6.5 cm, capacity 130 ml.
  • Chaozhou Hong Ni (red clay) has more than 6000 years of history.  It became more popular in the Tang and Song dynasties as a clay of choice for cookware and kettles for boiling water.
  • These teapots are made from Chaozhou dahongpao red clay. Compared to Yixing clay, Chaozhou Teapot is a little bit more porous, and can similarly absorb the flavor and character of the tea you use them for, improving with continued use and developing a patina.
  • This clay also experiences less shrinkage during firing than other unglazed clays like Yixing zisha and Jianshui zitao. This results in Chaozhou Teapot often having extremely tight-fitting lids. The construction also tends to be smaller in size and with thinner walls, which make them suitable for brewing Dancong. This allows the pots to maintain a high temperature while brewing, but dissipate heat between brews so as not to draw out as much bitterness from the Dancong.
  • The clay has a metallic sound when tapped together.  The clay is highly porous but without allowing water to escape or soak in deeply.  Chaozhou Teapot is excellent for all teas, but a perfect choice for Dan Cong Oolongs.
  • Because the Jixuhu Shachao teapot has a loose gland and a snap-on lid design (the lid cannot be dropped at a 90° inclination), it is not as airtight as the traditional built-in teapot to cut off the water.
  • When pouring tea, the soup needs to be poured out slowly, so as to reduce the flow of the tea soup from overflowing the lid, until the teapot is completely poured out the tea soup at 90°.
  • As these are unglazed pieces, we recommend dedicating your teapot to one type of tea and avoiding the use of soap or detergents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Hand Pulled Chaozhou Teapot different from other teapots?
The Hand Pulled Chaozhou Teapot is crafted from traditional Chaozhou dahongpao red clay, known for its porous nature that enhances tea flavor over time. Its design emphasizes tight-fitting lids and thin walls, ideal for brewing delicate teas like Dancong Oolongs.
Is this Chaozhou Teapot suitable for all types of tea?
While it is excellent for all teas, the Chaozhou Teapot is particularly perfect for brewing Dancong Oolong due to its material properties that maintain high temperatures and develop a patina with continued use.
How should I care for my unglazed Chaozhou Teapot?
To preserve your teapot, avoid using soap or detergents and dedicate it to one type of tea to prevent flavor mixing. Rinsing with hot water and drying thoroughly is recommended for cleaning.
What is the capacity and size of the Dragon Egg and Lantern Side Handle Pots?
The Dragon Egg Side Handle Pot measures 11.5 x 7.5 cm with a capacity of 140 ml, while the Lantern Side Handle Pot is 11.5 x 6.5 cm with a capacity of 130 ml, making them ideal for personal tea brewing.
Why does the Chaozhou Teapot have a metallic sound when tapped?
The metallic sound is characteristic of the high porosity of the clay used in the teapot, which allows it to develop a unique tone without water penetration, contributing to its traditional quality and excellent tea brewing properties.
