The best-known Pu-erh regions in Yunnan include Xishuangbanna, Pu'er City, and Lincang, with famous mountain areas such as Yiwu, Jingmai, Bulang, Menghai, and others offering distinctive combinations of aroma, bitterness, sweetness, texture, and aging character. There is no single "best" region for every drinker.
The fundamental difference between raw and ripe Pu-erh is the processing method: raw Pu-erh develops primarily through natural aging after production, while ripe Pu-erh undergoes controlled wet-pile fermentation to accelerate transformation before sale.
