  • Dianhong Golden Wire comes from the mountain forests of the Baiying region in Yunnan Province. It is harvested when the year’s first tea buds begin to grow in late March or early April. Most black teas are made from leaves that are harvested later in the season, and when oxidized and dried, they appear black in color. Young tea buds, on the other hand, are a beautiful golden color after processing. This is due to the rich antioxidants and lower amount of chlorophyll contained in the young growth. The fine fuzzy hairs on each bud are a testament to the tea maker’s skillful handling of the leaves without breaking them off.
  • The exclusive use of single young tea buds to make Dianhong Golden Wire is highly unusual for a black tea. Because of this, it possesses a very rich aroma that some people say resembles cacao. The flavor is smooth with a delicate sweetness that fills the entire palate. Golden Buds is truly a remarkable tea.
  • However, processing tea buds into a black tea requires an immense amount of skill to produce a good tea. If left on the tea bush, healthy tea buds will open five or six tea leaves. The tea maker must carefully control the oxidation process through every layer of the bud. Black tea that is over-oxidized will be sour, and if under-oxidized, the tea will be heavy and tannic. But with just the right touch and technique, black teas like Jinya emerge from the process with an exquisite rich aroma and a sweet and smooth flavor.
  • The buds of Dianhong Golden Wire tea are slightly curved. Compared with the golden buds, the buds are smaller and silk-like, hence the name "Golden Silk Dianhong". It has a strong aroma, with a sweet floral scent, and the tea soup is orange-yellow in color, with a more pronounced aroma.
  • The tea leaves of Dianhong Golden Wire are thick, slightly curled, dark, and shiny, with golden tips. As soon as you open the package, you will be greeted by the rich aroma of natural nectar. After entering the mouth, it is fresh, mellow and refreshing, with a lingering fragrance on the teeth and cheeks, sweet, and quickly returns to sweetness, with a long lingering fragrance in the mouth. Even if you brew it several times, the aroma is still fragrant, and the sweet feeling lingers in your mouth, which is endless.
  • Dianhong Golden Wire is not only the best Yunnan black tea, but also a treasure among teas. Its unique flavor and lasting aroma make it unforgettable. If you haven't tried this tea yet, why not brew a pot and savor its charm?
  • There are some particularities in brewing Dianhong Golden Wire.
It is not suitable to use boiling water for brewing tea. The water temperature should be controlled at 80~83 degrees Celsius.
The tea soup should be poured out quickly. The first brewing time is 1 second for the first to third brews. From the fourth brewing time, the pouring time is gradually extended to 3 seconds, 5 seconds, and 8 seconds. Do not cover the lid after that.

LOVE THIS BLACK TEA

I lived in Taiwan in the late 1950’s. My dad was USArmy. My mother always drank tea so she loved all the oolong varieties. My brother and I learned to drink our iced tea brewed with a local black tea. No sugar was needed. I loved to go to the tea shop with our Amah. This has superior flavor with a beautiful color. No sweetener is needed. And oh the aroma! This is a wonderful black tea. Measure it by weight or use a pinch . You need a small pinch with one finger and thumb for a cup and one large loose pinch with thumb and three fingers for One L. Or one Quqrt.

Given time, it'll grow on you...

I purchased it at the same time I also got a Yunnan Dian Hong from another company, and at first was less impressed with this Yunnan Golden Special. This in part was due to my looking for a particular variety of so-called "red" tea that I could never seem to find in the U.S.. But the more I have tried this Golden Special (and the more favorable comments I have heard from friends I have served it to), the more I like it! I find many Yunnan teas (especially featuring "golden buds") can have a distinctive malty, even slightly sour aftertaste. However, this tea (to my taste) has a wonderful balance of sweetness and smoothness that makes me want to drink more than I should. (And this is even more the case when you add a bit of honey.. :-) Great stuff and I'd recommend it to any lover of Chinese black teas.

Great afternoon tea

Flavors are chocolatey and malty, very subtle and fragrant. I wouldn't touch it with milk or sugar, all of the flavor would be completely lost. There's no astringency or bitterness, and next to no tannins.

Well packaged, nary a broken leaf in the bag. Leaves are large and beautifully rolled with lots of golden tips.

I find 2.5-3 grams of tea per 8 oz water is perfect, so 8 grams of tea in my 24oz teapot is perfect.

Good flavor

Butter flavor very prominent in 1st steep. Added a bit of maple syrup which cut the butter some. 2nd and 3rd steeps butter note was much restrained and tea very pleasant. An interesting tea that will take some experimenting.
