  • Moonlight Beauty Moonlight White Tea has an extremely strange fragrance and a strange shape. The upper piece is white and the lower piece is black, just like the moonlight shining on the tea teeth. The soup color is yellow first, then red and then yellow again, cool and clear. Once brewed, the fragrance overflows, and after drinking, the sweetness is endless. It has the fragrance of oolong and the mellowness of Pu'er tea, and has a unique taste. It is an excellent tea worth tasting and collecting. Moonlight White Tea is also called Moonlight Tea.
  • Beautiful Legend
There was a beautiful legend among the Bulang people related to this tea:
Coming from the south were the seventh princesses summoned by King Jinghong Tai of Mengmeng. She was beautiful, kind, hardworking, and brave, and was the embodiment of the beauty and wisdom of the Thai people in the dam. For the peace and friendship between the Bulang tribe and the Thai tribe, she gave up the paradise-like life in the palace, went up the mountain to form a connection with the Bulang people of Bayanleng, and jointly created a new era of Bulang society.

Nanfalai not only taught the Bulang people to dig terraces to plant rice, but also brought technology for large-scale artificial tea planting, which enabled the Bulang people to enter a civilized society from covering themselves with tree bark. The later tea culture was first initiated by the Brown people.

And Nanfalai (the seventh princess) was honored by the Bulang people as the "mother of the tribe", that is, the "mother of tea". (The Cambodian Khmer people are another branch of the Bulang people, and have also made great contributions to world civilization - they created the world-famous Angkor culture). "Moonlight White" tea is the best tea selected by the Brown people from among many fine teas to pay tribute to the royal family. It is praised by the people as being as holy and noble as the "Seven Princesses" and is the embodiment of the beauty of the "Seven Princesses".

  • Moonlight Beauty hails from Yunnan Province, China. It is made from the buds & leaves of the Menghai Big Leaf Cultivar (similar to Puerh) and according to folklore, was harvested by beautiful young women in the nighttime, to minimize exposure to the sun.
  • Moonlight Beauty is prepared in a similar manner to Fuding White Tea; however, it has a much stronger and more robust taste than white tea, due to its cultivar. The fragrance is sweet, and the taste and body of the tea is much more similar to black tea. It is truly a unique tea!
  • The Moonlight Beauty tea brews a golden yellow tea soup that is thick, full-bodied with a creamy viscous mouth-feel.  The Moonlight Beauty tea is sweet like sugarcane with hints of wheatgrass.  There a bit more vegetal character to this tea as compared to the Silver Needles White, giving this tea a bit more depth.  This tea can be brewed 6 to 8 times gong fu style.

Frequently Asked Questions

I bought a white tea once, and it tasted like hot water. Is this the same? I hate paying for tea that has "no flavor.
Flavorlessness is a sign of low quality or a tea that is past its prime. Our Yue Guang Bai is fresh from the 2026 harvest and composed of whole, fat buds. Because these buds are rich in sap (and we don’t chop them up into fannings), you will taste distinct notes of honeydew melon, fresh hay, and honey. Furthermore, the Yunnan Yue Guang Bai Air Dried White Tea process encourages a heavier body than standard Fujian white teas, making sure you taste something.
I tried white tea and it gave me an upset stomach. Is this safe for sensitive guts?
Traditional whites can be cold to the stomach. However, Moonlight Beauty is not standard white tea. Because we do not heat up the leaves to kill the enzymes (kill-green), the leaves undergo a gentle, natural fermentation/oxidation over 48-60 hours. This extended anaerobic environment breaks down the aggressive catechins and tannins that upset the stomach. Essentially, Moonlight White Yunnan White Tea is much "warmer" and softer on the digestive system than raw green tea.
Why are my tea leaves crushed into little bits? My last package had so much "dust" it made the cup murky.
Look at our photos. Our Yue Guang Bai White Moonlight is Full Leaf. Because the leaves are never rolled or kneaded, they remain flexible, whole, and intact. We pack them gently by hand to prevent crushing. You will not find sludge at the bottom of your cup; you will find a beautiful sunrise of floating, rehydrated black and white leaves.
I tried steeping this at boiling once and it went bitter. Am I doing it wrong?
While we recommend brewing at 175°F to 185°F (80°C-85°C) to protect the delicate aromatic oils, here is the magic of Moonlight Beauty White Tea: Even if you accidentally use boiling water, this tea is incredibly forgiving. Because the leaves do not undergo the "fixing" process (pan firing), the plant cells are soft and whole. They release flavor slowly. Unlike crushed bagged tea that instantly floods with tannins at high heat, Moonlight White releases its sweet water slowly. You won't ruin it.
Why is your tea white on one side and black on the other? Is that blended tea?
This is the magic of Yue Guang Bai. The black is the back of the leaf that oxidized because it was touching the bamboo tray (slow air). The white is the front of the leaf facing upwards, covered in millions of tiny silver hairs (trichomes) that protect the leaf. It is 100% the same leaf, 100% natural, resulting from how the moisture evaporated. Nature painted this leaf; we didn't add anything to it.
Does this tea get old quickly? I want to buy a whole pound but don't drink fast.
Because Moonlight White Yunnan White Tea skips the "kill-green" heating step, the enzymes inside the leaf are still alive. Like Pu'er, this tea actually ages beautifully. Keep it dry, keep it sealed, and in 2 years, that "fresh" hay flavor will transform into a honeyed, date-sweet, liquor-like brew. It doesn't expire; it evolves.
